Come and learn to make a classic wardrobe staple that will see you through the seasons. The wrap skirt is an ideal project to boost your sewing confidence and dressmaking skills. The pattern we will be using incorporates the use of darts to add shaping and various methods to enclose all the raw edges of your seams without the need for an overlocker. On this course you will learn to sew: -
- Darts
- French seams
- Buttonholes
- Stitch in the ditch
- Accurate hems
This will result in a beautifully finished garment that looks nearly as good on the inside too! The wrap skirt we have chosen has plenty of coverage in hope to avoid any Marilyn Monroe moments, should the wind pick up!
There will be a lot packed into this one-day workshop so we would ask that you could provide us with a hip and waist measurement beforehand, and also have your fabric prewashed and pressed ready to begin on the day.
This pattern works well with a range of fabrics (which we will discuss further in the workshop) but I would recommend using a lightweight – mid/heavy cotton, linen, cotton-linen blend, linen-viscose blend, viscose blend suiting or cotton blend suiting for this workshop. We basically need something that will behave while we are learning the new techniques! The fabrics I have suggested all press/iron well and have a little bit of drape (floatiness) to them.

2.5m (fabric 115cm/45" wide)

3m (fabric 115cm/45" wide)

We advise you buy more fabric than you need in case sizing needs to be adjusted.
You will need
As well as fabric you will need:
- matching thread (I would recommend a good, strong all-rounder – Gutermann sew all thread which is available in the shop)
- a sewing kit (we do have sewing kits available to use in the studio if needed)
- a pen and notebook (don’t worry its not school, but its always useful to scribble a few notes and doodles!)
