I went on the beginners overlocking course today and couldn't recommend it more highly. The tutors were knowledgeable and friendly, explaining everything so well and offering support throughout. I'm really chuffed with the garment I made and it has inspired me to get out my overlocker and not be scared of it. I've had a play with it this evening and finally managed to get it threaded and working correctly, thanks to the knowledge and skills I got from the workshops. I'll be looking out for the next level session when it's on!

A lovely selection of fabrics. Do ask, you never know what they might have tucked away. Knowledgeable staff. Sewing classes are great value, learnt so much. Review update Dec 2022: I'm a bloke, early 50s with a past career in IT. I find sewing to be the perfect combination of technical challenge, a desire for precision, and a huge sense of achievement. At the start of the year I could just about run a straight stitch on a machine, but I struck lucky finding Carolyn Rose School of Sewing. Initially I attended a 6 week course, picking up the necessary skills to understand commerical patterns, cut out and sew some pyjama bottoms. I subsequently signed up for adhoc "time to sew" sessions, where Carolyn is on hand to share her vast experience and tips. What a difference it has made. I'm now producing shirts. I've made a heavyweight overshirt for the garden and also a Xmas shirt for a friend as a dare. Collars are my nemesis and would have taken me many weeks to figure out at home. Carolyn helped me crack it in a single session. Sewing is definitely not just for kids and ladies. I have been made to feel very welcome by Carolyn and the team at the shop. Give it a go!

Excellent sewing school for me, who didn’t know anything about sewing or sewing machines and I made a tote bag in 4 lessons and a pouch in two. I am going to carry on with lesson to up my skill set as the teaching by Sam is superb. I thoroughly enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, camaraderie and help from all. Thrilled I’m on the way to learning to use a sewing machine.

I have just completed a 6 week beginners’ sewing course. We learnt how to make a pin cushion, shoulder bag, cushion cover, small zip bag and little Christmas tree decoration- it was great to have achieved so much in such a short time! Sam and Carolyn were both great teachers and I now have more confidence to sew my own projects!

The pattern arrived within four working days of purchasing. It arrived in good condition like new. The pattern is in tissue format and also in excellent condition with very good instruction sheets to follow. This is my first ever baby set pattern which I am excited to use for the expected arrival of my grand baby. I like that I am able to use the pattern for a wardrobe of various baby items up to the age of 24 months. I cannot wait to start making the Lullaby Layette Set.

I am really enjoying my beginners sewing course. Would recommend to anyone who’s always wanted to learn to use a sewing machine.

The were perfect for a jumper I knitted and I had the same patch on the front of the jumper as the buttons

I did the six week sewing beginners course, it was excellent, the explanations were clear and Carolyn is an excellent teacher. Going back for a further course and have taken the plunge and bought all the toys 🙂
