Adults, Beginners, Pattern Drafting Basic Block/Bodice, Two Day Workshop
Pattern drafting/cutting beginners level.
Come and join our exciting new pattern cutting classes at ‘The Carolyn Rose School of Sewing’. Come and learn the basics of measuring the body correctly and taking key measurements, right through to producing your own basic block and then apply them to draft the block for your basic bodice, sleeve and skirt. These calculations and skills can then be used in follow on workshops to create a jacket, coat, dress or trouser block.
Pattern cutting for beginners part one – An Overview
On this exciting new course, ‘Pattern Cutting for beginners’ you will learn the basics and importance of measuring the body and learning about the key areas and points. These measurements will then be applied to start draft your basic bodice block. You will learn to use specialist equipment and techniques to measure the body and then transfer your basic block onto pattern paper. Once the basic bodice is drafted, you will then be guided through making your ‘toile’ – this is a calico ‘mock-up’ of the bodice block. The toile will then be applied to the body, and you will be guided through the process of fitting, learning about the points of least change and the points of most change, as well as the importance of drawing the Centre front line etc, onto the calico toile. You will also be guided through making adjustments to the toile, and learn to transfer these adjustments back onto the draft. If there is time we will start to draft the sleeve.
This Pattern Cutting course will be the start of a series of workshops which will guide you through from the basics of measuring, drafting and manufacture, leading onto more in depth and complex techniques with the proceeding workshops.
